A Bargain at any Price

Ya know, I hear from time to time about how expensive it is to raise kids. Yea, so what. While at my younger sons football game on friday night, it was driven home just how little that means. I mean, you raise them, teach them, do all you can for them. But the little things tend to remind you just how the cost was soooooooooo overrated. Now, both my boys played Varsity football. The teams were less than stellar. It was painful to watch them and their teammates endure loss after loss. Seeing their hard work and dedication go for naught. Yet, they only became stronger and more determined not to settle. My oldest suffered through 3 long losing seasons and the teams losing streak kept piling up. Finally when they did finally win one, the looks on their faces made it all seem worth the work. Now my youngest had his time last week. Granted, it was a private Christian school, but they were still state-semifinalists last year. Last year this school beat them down but good. Making it worse were the rude parents and hateful players rubbing it in. Even the newspaper had them picked by 14 points. Yet, we piled up a 52-0 beating on them. Everything seemed to work for our boys. Payback seems a strong word, but you could see it the way the boys just played harder and harder. Bottom line? The looks on their faces after the game. They prayed with the other team afterwards, very sportsmanlike. But the relief and realization that never giving up will eventually pay off seemed evident. The looks said it all. That makes the so-called cost of raising kids seem insignificant.
