A Bargain at any Price

Ya know, I hear from time to time about how expensive it is to raise kids. Yea, so what. While at my younger sons football game on friday night, it was driven home just how little that means. I mean, you raise them, teach them, do all you can for them. But the little things tend to remind you just how the cost was soooooooooo overrated. Now, both my boys played Varsity football. The teams were less than stellar. It was painful to watch them and their teammates endure loss after loss. Seeing their hard work and dedication go for naught. Yet, they only became stronger and more determined not to settle. My oldest suffered through 3 long losing seasons and the teams losing streak kept piling up. Finally when they did finally win one, the looks on their faces made it all seem worth the work. Now my youngest had his time last week. Granted, it was a private Christian school, but they were still state-semifinalists last year. Last year this school beat them down but good. Making it worse were the rude parents and hateful players rubbing it in. Even the newspaper had them picked by 14 points. Yet, we piled up a 52-0 beating on them. Everything seemed to work for our boys. Payback seems a strong word, but you could see it the way the boys just played harder and harder. Bottom line? The looks on their faces after the game. They prayed with the other team afterwards, very sportsmanlike. But the relief and realization that never giving up will eventually pay off seemed evident. The looks said it all. That makes the so-called cost of raising kids seem insignificant.

We created this monster

I made a trip to Wal-Mart recently, like I do often to get a few groceries. Imagine my surprise (GASP!) when the lady in front of me pulled out her food stamps and WIC card to pay for her transaction(s). No problem, I really have no argument for people in need to receive assistance. BUT, as I looked at this lady I realized her outfit cost more than my entire wardrobe! Seriously? Nike Air Max? 160.00 dollar shoes? Again, to those who truly are in need, fine. This one really pisses me off. Example: I would have to go in severe debt (ok, more in debt) to secure loans to go back to school. Yet my tax dollars and God knows what else goes to fund those who choose to play the system. Wait a minute, I could tell the government I am from Sudan and get my school paid for! But I make way too much money to qualify for education assistance that would amount to anything. Is it any wonder how we got to this point? We piss and moan about our politicians being corrupt money hungry douche bags, yet we keep re-electing the morons. We know who plays the system yet we do or say nothing. Me included. The system just keeps supporting these thieves and we get the same old song and dance. This country has become buried in fraud and deceit. We have become numb to those who truly need our help. Yet it's hard to know what is what. Makes you wonder if some people see the American flag and automatically hold out their hands, rather than saluting it.......shameful

My Hero

I really don't like politicians much at all. That said, I was made aware of eternal gubernatorial candidate here in Texas by the name of Kinky Friedman. Love this guy. if just for his outstanding quotes. Now I can't recite them verbatim, but the 2 I love so far?

1. "When I die, throw my ashes into Rick Perry's hair".

2. "Obama has done for the economy what panty hose did for foreplay".

I like this guy, if for nothing more than his will to speak his mind, correctness be damned.

Remember Me?

After seeing the goings on this holiday weekend, I am reminded of just how lazy and apathetic we have become. I mean seriously, it's Memorial Day weekend and everywhere you look, people are out in force waving flags and all else that goes along with it. Here's my problem. How lazy and apathetic have we become that it takes a HOLIDAY to remember those who have served our country proudly and to those who paid the ULTIMATE sacrifice? Is the happenings going on in our daily lives THAT important that we can't seem to remember our Veterans? We have no problems pissing and moaning about dumbass things like our politicians lying to us, our dogs peeing on the carpet, and the like. Our Military only gets the thanks and attention when a holiday comes around or they slap a knot on some idiot's head (see Osama). It's because of the sacrifices our soldiers make that we can worry about the really small things in life. They deserve better.....end of story.

About Damn Time!

I guess it's time to fire up the ol' blog again. With no better reason than to celebrate our military people takin' down that ass UBL Yea yea, I'm sure the bleeding heart whinebags will find something to bitch about, even now. But then, who the hell cares what they think. It's really quite simple, that lunatic was responsible for the worst terrorist attack on OUR soil. I won't be shedding any tears for that buttwipe. I'm also not naive enough to believe for one minute that the terror war is anywhere close to being over. I'm also more convinced than ever that it took so long to get him for no other reason than for the fact that we are still using an outdated belief thatwe must "play by the rules" when it involves warfare (military action...etc.). Not playing by these so-called rules does NOT make us uncivilized or does NOT lower ourselves to their bottom feeder status. I prefer to think of it as leveling the playing field. Oh....and really.......how many of you still believe that Pakistan had no clue he was there? Not that a large mansion just one-half mile away from a military academy wasn't a clue. Kudos to our military for nailin' the dumbass. Just wait, I can hear all the politicians lining up to take credit for this one.

Suicide Watch

A friend of mine on Facebook made a comment about "Classless, obnoxious Texas Longhorn fans". It got me to thinkin'. I have lived in multiple parts of the country and being a huge sports fan, I have had the pleasure/displeasure of numerous "fans" and their ummm........attitudes and antics in support(?) of their teams. My findings? Well here it goes, my following list are what I feel are the absolute worst so-called "fans" in all sports.

1. New York Yankees

1.(a) Texas Longhorns

Well, there's my list. Why so short? Let me put it to you this way. If you do the math, let's say with music that changed the whole landscape of things the list would look like this:

1. Elvis Presley

1.(a) The Beatles

In applying this to fandome, my list has the 2 leading culprits in breeding the most arrogant, bandwagoning, clueless fans in all sports. I enjoy nothing more than watching these 2 teams lose because it warms my heart to see the fans suffer endless pain and agony. You know what I mean. Here let me help you with my sure-fire list of things to watch for when the teams in question do lose. Feel free to use it as a checklist.

1. Call centers for 1-800-I'magonnajumpoffacliff become jammed because these "fans" just can't cope with the impending doom that is sure to follow. Self-induced of course for all their constant "we are 10-0! the National Title/World Series is ours for sure" crap we endure all year long.

2. Productivity at work suffers because some go as far as to not show up due to their mental breakdown, which will comeforth when we see them and unleash our happiness at their misery.

3. "The refs were pathetic", "inuries cost us", "if he woulda caught it, shoulda caught it, mighta caught it, we woulda won".

4. All team apparel becomes covere up or vanishes entirely, like we won't notice.

Just a small list that could go on forever, you get the idea. So, while we do have to endure these insufferable boobs from time to time, just keep this in mind; Their teams will lose and we will surely be there to "remind" them of that fact and no "alien anal probe abduction" story will let them off the hook anytime soon.
